Temperatures along Florida's coasts are modified by sea and land breezes, which are strongest in the summer. Land-sea breezes are diurnal. During the day the land heats more rapidly than the water, and a convectionalÊcirculationÊsystem develops. Air rises over the land, and the resulting low pressure pulls air in off the water (sea breeze). During the late evening the reverse takes place, since the water has a higher temperature than the land. Air is pulled from the land (land breeze) into the low pressure area that has developed over the water. The sea breeze can lower temperatures significantly as far as fifteen miles into the interior.
